21-day lockdown – Day 10 – Spider hunt!
In celebration of all things wild, we thought we take you on a virtual spider hunt today!
Some people would rather not have any spiders in their gardens, but the truth is that these incredible creatures are a sign of a healthy eco-system. You may not believe it, but if you have a healthy, pesticide-free garden, then your backyard is probably home to hundreds, if not thousands of insects. and with these come all manner of predatory creatures to keep them in check, including spiders. Often, the best time to observe spiders in your garden is at night, when many spider species come out to feed.
Although a fear of spiders can be a real problem for some people, spiders are in most instances harmless, and very few people actually get bitten by them. In most cases the bites and stings we receive are from other insects, even though we might blame spiders. One of the best ways to (virtually) rid yourself of a fear of spiders is to join the spider club. Going on one of their outings will give you a greater appreciation for these fascinating creatures, and it is amazing to see how people shed their fears, especially kids! So here we go, our virtual, nighttime, spider hunt, all from our backyard. Enjoy!
